Where is your focus today?

I recently found this truth-filled quote and curiously it was by a church father whose theology I often find myself at odds with. Yet today, I see something he said, a philosophy he shared that we both embrace. That is what I choose to focus on—our shared truth, not our differences.  And curiously, it was a statement about prayer and how we value and pray for each other.

“Our prayer must not be self-centered. It must arise not only because we feel our own need as a burden we must lay upon God, but also we are so bound up in love for our fellow men that we feel their need as acutely as our own. To make intercession for men is the most powerful and practical way in which we can express our love for them.” John Calvin, 16th century Protestant reformer.

I do not believe that our nation’s woes will be solved by pundits, protests, or political posturing. I believe they will be made better by prayer. Will you agree I prayer with me for the future of our nation and the rest of the world?
