The Bells of Christmas and Beyond

I love the lights, and parties, the shopping, and cooking and the celebrations the revolve around Christmas. But more than anything, I want to calm myself for a long enough moment that the reality of the Holiday is not lost on me. Jesus came to earth as a fragile baby to understand what life was like in my shoes and yours. He grew into a man and gave His life so that we could be with Him forever in heaven. That is “good tidings of great joy” for all who receive it.

I read this in Jesus Calling in October, I photocopied it and tucked it in my planner for December. That is when I need to be reminded to quiet my heart the most.

“I am with you. I am with you. I am with you. Heaven’s bells continually peal with the promise of My Promise. Some people never hear those bells because their minds are earthbound and their hearts are closed to Me. Others hear those bells only once or twice in their lifetimes, in rare moments of seeking Me above all else. My desire is that my “sheep” heart my voice continually. For I am the ever-present Shepherd.

Quietness is the classroom where you learn to hear My voice. Beginners need a quiet place in order to still their minds. As you advance in this discipline, you gradually learn to carry the stillness with you wherever you go. When you step back into the mainstream of life, strain to hear those glorious bells: I am with you. I am with you. I am with you.” From Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.

May you find the time to soak in the blessed truth of this message. I’m heading for a quiet spot by my Christmas tree now. I’ll catch you and all the celebrations later.
