Mindful Meditation for Christians 

If you have a hard time idling down to pray, meditation can help. Here is an outline for Mindful Meditation for Christians. 

Tool 1: BREATHING—Sit quietly and focus on your breathing, either at the nostrils or the abdomen to help you shut everything else out and pay attention to the Lord.   

Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace, all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (NLT.) 

Matthew 11:28-30,” The Message, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”  

Tool 2: RELAXATION—Allow your body to relax and your mind will follow along.  

“Lamentations 3:22-23, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” 

Psalm 143:8 , “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” 

Isaiah 30:15, “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength” NIV.  

Same verse in The Message Bible: “God, the Master, The Holy of Israel, has this solemn counsel: “Your salvation requires you to turn back to me and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves. Your strength will come from settling down in complete dependence on me. The very thing you’ve been unwilling to do.” 

Tool 3: THOUGHT SURRENDER—Surrender each thought to the Lord. 

1 Peter 5:6-9, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith...” 

Tool 4: BE PRESENT—Stay in the moment.  

Matthew 6:34, “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes,”(The Message). 

Psalm 40:1-3, “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.” 

Tool 5: NO JUDGMENT—Suspend judgment of yourself and your circumstances and accept the present moment just as it is. 

Matthew 6:27, “You cannot add any time to your life by worrying about it.” 

Tool 6: GRATITUDE—Spend some time in God’s presence thanking Him for all He has done for you.  

1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  

Colossians 2:6-7, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” 

Philippians 4:6,”Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
