Looking For God

“Some people talk about finding God—as if He could ever get lost.” That’s a quote from Celebrate Recovery Step Study guide, in reference to Principle 1 for healing and recovery.

Then the author shares Romans 8:38-39 in The Living Bible: “For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. The angels won’t, and the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away…Nothing will ever be able to separate us for the love God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us.”

Every time I read this verse I am in awe of God’s love, the miracle of salvation, and the difference both have made in my life.

When we think we’re not good enough to be saved, we’re right. But that didn’t matter to Jesus, He died for us anyway. Romans 8 makes me a believer in God’s grace and this poem reinforces that.

“Not what my hands have done

Can save this guilty soul.

Not what this toiling flesh has borne,

Can make my spirit whole.

Not what I feel or do

Can give me peace with God;

Not all my prayers nor sighs nor tears,

Can ease my awful load.

Your work alone, O Christ,

Can ease this weight of sin;

Your blood alone, O lamb of God,

Can give me peace within.”

Horatius Bonar

“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires,” 2 Peter 1:3-4.

I am so grateful for God’s transforming power. How about you?
