Complain or Create

A lot of folks complain about their jobs. They tend to blame the job for being boring and lacking challenge. But’s it isn’t always the fault of the job but one’s attitude toward it.

Every job contains the hidden challenge of how can it be done better?

Could anything be more boring than sweeping floors? Murray Spangler, a department store janitor in Canton, Ohio wasn’t bored even though dust made him cough and sneeze (even before Covid!)

Instead of complaining or quitting, Spangler set out to find a better way to clean floors. “Why not eliminate the broom,” he wondered, “maybe something that would suck up dust...?”

Spangler’s  question led to a crude but workable vacuum cleaner which he introduced to an old friend in the leather business to finance. That’s when he went into business with H.W. Hoover and rest is history!

There is a lot we don’t like about our current situation. But there is also something creative that we can attempt to make our circumstances richer. However, if we fill our minds with negativity and grumbling, we will fail to have the focus we need to generate something positive. It may not be as epic as a Hoover vacuum, but you might find a better way to manage your finances or finally tackle the de-clutter project you’ve been promising yourself for years. Here’s to innovation during this Coronacation!
